When we published our book through Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing, we had no idea that uploading our files would allow our book to be given away for free. We later discovered that Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing sent our book covers and interior files to IngramSpark. After that, IngramSpark shared those same files with different bookstores. This meant our book was being passed around without our permission. It was surprising to learn how far our files had traveled.

Because of this, a bookstore ended up offering our book files for free. We never expected that our work would be shared so easily. It felt unfair that something we created with care could be given away without our approval. We realized that once the files were uploaded, we no longer had control over them. This experience taught us how important it is to protect digital book files.

Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing made us realize that we no longer wanted to share the interior of our book with large platforms. We wanted to decide who could access our digital files. We also wanted to make sure our work stayed in the hands of people we trusted. This meant finding a better way to publish and share our books. We knew we needed a more transparent system.

As a result, we decided to bring together bookstores and authors who cared about fairness. We wanted everyone involved to understand exactly where their files were going. Transparency became one of our main goals. We believed authors deserved to know who was handling their work. We also believed bookstores should be honest about how they used those files.

Most importantly, we wanted to stop big companies from sharing files with businesses that take advantage of authors. Too many creators lose control of their work without even realizing it. By building a community of trustworthy bookstores and authors, we hoped to change that. We wanted to create a safer and more respectful publishing environment. This new approach helps protect authors and supports small bookstores at the same time.
